Paramedic nearly hit by van in failure to stop collision in Hermitage

Witnesses sought to two road traffic incidents

POLICE want to trace witnesses of a collision in Hermitage.

A silver Peugeot 307 left the road at the junction of Priors Court Road and the B4009 at around 12.40pm on Thursday, May 28.

The driver fled from the scene.

Approximately five minutes later, a white Mercedes Sprinter van with Merityre stickers drove past the scene and nearly collided with a paramedic directing traffic.

The 27-year-old man jumped away uninjured.

The driver of the Mercedes is described as white, of medium build, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a light coloured long sleeved top and dark bottoms. He was also carrying a large rucksack.

The Mercedes Sprinter was later recovered in Kiln Road, Newbury and police believe it was stolen. This has since been confirmed by Merityre.

Investigating officer, PC Nigel Woodall of Local CID based at Newbury, said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw the Peugeot 307 prior to the collision or the collision itself. I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the Mercedes Sprinter van with Merityre stickers before it nearly collided with the paramedic, or anyone who saw the near-miss."

A 38-year-old man from Dorchester, Dorset, has been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A.

He has been released on police bail until July 10.
