Park House hosts Iraqi education chiefs
Over the course of the visit, which was organised as part of the British Council, Youth Sport Trust and EU education programme in Iraq, the teaching staff and political representatives spent time observing lessons in PE, Maths and Sciences.
The visit was the final stage of the programme which has already seen staff from Park House visit Iraq on three occasions.
Last month, Headteacher at Park House, Derek Peaple, visited the capital of Kurdistan, where he addressed the delegation on how to build partnerships with a range of community organisations and businesses to add value to student learning.
He said:“The partnership programme has offered a unique opportunity to revisit the original reasons why I went into teaching.
“We have been able to observe young men and women in Iraq working with incredibly creative teachers to take responsibility for their own learning and change the way their schools think about what can be achieved.
“I am hugely proud of the key role that Park House staff and students have played in this process.”
John Steele, Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, said: “The work the Youth Sport Trust does internationally is making a difference to hundreds of thousands of young people around the world. We are proud to share our expertise in the delivery of high quality PE and sport and are delighted that officials from Iraq have travelled over here to see for themselves some of the great work that’s taking place in schools.”
Park House has relationships with Al-Mansoor Secondary School and Al-Ressala Secondary School, in Baghdad, to promote effective learning across the curriculum through sport.
