Park House pupils bound for Olympics
And they were thrilled to meet the British former Olympic, Commonwealth, European and World champion triple jumper Jonathan Edwards.
They spent last week preparing for their key role by taking part in a series of test events.
The team comprises Keryn Osteritter, aged 17, Liam Sheppard, aged 15, Lara Jones, aged 16, Laura Stafford, aged 17 and 15-year-old Thomas Graves.
Following their success at a national selection event held at the Olympic Park, the pupils were selected as official Games Makers and will work at the Aquatics Centre to manage and analyse performance data from the swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo events.
The role is considered to be among the most prestigious and privileged of all the unique Games Makers opportunities and will involve direct access to the poolside area.
Headteacher Derek Peaple said: “I’m thrilled that our engagement with the education programmes associated with the Olympic and Paralympic Games has resulted in this once in a lifetime opportunity for our students.
“These outstanding young leaders are wonderful ambassadors for Park House and I know that they will do themselves proud on a world stage this summer in the Olympic Stadium.”
Elliot Laker from Year 11 added: “We’re now ready to embrace our role and all look forward to what is sure to be one of the biggest and best events in worldwide sporting history.”
