Park Way Bridge fines to be discussed at council meeting tonight (Thurs)
The shadow portfolio holder for highways and transport, Keith Woodhams (Lib Dem, Thatcham West), will put the question to the Conservative-controlled district council at a meeting of the executive this evening (Thursday).
He is also demanding to know how many appeals there have been in total against the fines and the administrative cost to the council of processing them.
Earlier this year, the Newbury Weekly News revealed that the council has raked in £282,915 from 10,501 motorists since restrictions were introduced in November 2011.
The row over signage escalated when the chief adjudicator for the Traffic Penalty Tribunal cancelled the £60 fine of Reading motorist Peter Jeffries after he exited a car park into the bus lane on September 12 last year.
The independent tribunal ruled in favour of Mr Jeffries, describing the signage on the bridge as not adequately clear and giving insufficient opportunity to understand where the restriction begins and how to avoid it.
