Parkway kicks off Christmas

The new development launched its Thursday late night shopping with Christmas entertainment last night (Thursday)

NEWBURY was transformed into a winter wonderland last night with Christmas entertainment at Parkway.

The new shopping centre was launching its Thursday late night shopping with shops staying open until 8pm.

Last night, shoppers were entertained by an array of ambient acts from glowing jugglers gliding on segways to ice queens creating frost balloon sculptures.

The entertainment continues tomorrow (Saturday), when a tricycling Christmas panda will be making its way through the Kennet Shopping centre in Newbury, so shoppers beware.

And next week the town's Christmas lights will be switched on by the mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, in Market Place at 5.30pm on Friday, November 25.

Before the switch-on there will be a packed programme of events, which will start at 4pm with local singer Kate Izzard performing popular hits and Christmas songs with local band South Finesse.

Newbury town band, Watership Brass Band, together with St Nicolas Church Choir will be singing carols throughout the evening to entertain the crowds in Market Place.

The lights in Northbrook Street will be switched just before 5pm after which the Mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, and his entourage of local children, will lead a procession through the town.

They will be followed by Santa, whose sleigh will leave the Methodist Church at 5pm and is expected to arrive at Market Place at approximately 5.20pm.
