Another successful repair café held in Thatcham

A peacock, a rabbit and two teddy bears were among the 76 items fixed at the Newbury and Thatcham Repair Café in Thatcham last Sunday (September 29).

The peacock arrived wingless, the bunny and one teddy bear had issues with their battery mechanisms and the vintage teddy bear only had one functioning arm.

But volunteers managed to fix the first three items, and the vintage teddy bear is undergoing a reattachment of his arm.

“It was lovely to see families bringing in the bunny music box and the child’s light-up teddy and then watching the repairs,” said a spokesperson.

“We are so happy we can provide this service for the community.

“Maybe one day the young owners of these toys will be Repair Café volunteers.”

The volunteer-run café has held eight events since starting in February and says its volunteers have repaired 451 items – saving just under 1,000 kilograms worth of items from going to landfill.

Its next event will be at Newbury Methodist Church Hall on Sunday, October 27, at 2pm.
