Peasemore hayrick blaze under investigation

300 tonnes of hay ablaze

Several hundred tonnes of hay went up in smoke in a Peasemore blaze last night (Wed).

Two pumps were called from Newbury Fire Station at 10.05am, to Mud Lane, where 300 bales of hay, stacked and stored over the winter, were ablaze.

Firefighters protected the surrounding area to prevent the fire from spreading and were monitoring the incident.

Fire crews from Reading and Hungerford were rotated through the night to continue monitoring the fire, which firefighters said was likely to continue burning for most of today (Thurs).

The cause was still under investigation.
