Peer visits St Gabriel's school
Lord Nigel Crisp, who lives near Newbury, was at the independent girls school, in Sandleford Priory last Friday (January 17), where he met with pupils from years ten to 13, to talk about the work and role of the House of Lords.
The Cambridge graduate, a former civil servant awarded life peerage on retirement, triggered a lively question and answer session in which pupils quizzed him about healthcare and the parliamentary process.
Politics teacher, Emma Hammons, said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our girls to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”
The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools programme, which has been running across the UK since 2007 and involved around 50,000 young people.
