At a previous hearing the 76-year-old, of Skippons Close, Newbury, admitted assaulting three on-duty police officers – Padraig Parks, Luke Whitbread and Rhys McCormick.

He further pleaded guilty to using threatening, insulting or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause Lydia Moulding harassment, alarm or distress.

All four offences were committed in Newbury on January 9.

Magistrates adjourned for pre-sentence reports.

They stipulated these should be prepared on an ‘all options’ basis, including custody.

However, at Tuesday’s sentencing hearing Reeves was made subject to a 12-month community order with a requirement that he co-operate with a drug and alcohol treatment service.

No order was made for costs but Reeves, who was legally represented by Nathaniel Ikeazor, was required to pay £50 compensation in lieu of an otherwise statutory victim services surcharge.
