People evacuated from flats in Newbury after tumble dryer fire

Two fire engines, from Newbury and Hungerford stations, were called out to Thomas Askew House in Enborne Road at 10.15pm and about 20 people were evacuated for about an hour.
The sheltered housing flats are managed by Sovereign Housing Association and provide accommodation for older people who need support.
Commander Mike Wilson, of Newbury Fire Station, said the whole of the bottom floor of the flats was smoked out, but no-one was injured.
