Permission granted for new club house for Thatcham Rugby Club

After trying for permission since January, the club has been given permission to build the facility at Henwick Worthy sports field, Henwick Lane, owing to an increase in membership numbers.
Currently, members share a club house with Newbury and Thatcham Hockey Club, but the rugby club now has about 100 playing members.
Rugby club chairman, Will Sewell, said that getting a new club house was a must rather than just a need so that they did not lose any players.
He said: “We are pleased that it has finally gone through.
“It will mean that Thatcham now has somewhere it can call home.”
Mr Sewell estimated that the cost of the new club house would be about £300,000 but with all the extras including planning applications and furnishings it could cost up to £400,000.
He said that as they needed to prove to the council that they could pay for the works before it started, fundraising was a top priority for them.
He hoped that the majority of this would come from grants.
