Philosopher to visit West Berkshire pupils tonight (Monday)
Professor A.C. Grayling (pictured), aged 62, is to give a presentation on The Importance of the Humanities and the Crisis in Higher Education, targeting pupils who are interested in going to university after finishing their A-level examinations.
The talk will be attended by pupils and parents from St Gabriel’s and also from nearby schools including Kennet School, Thatcham, Trinity School, Newbury, St. Bartholomew's School, Newbury, and the Clere School, Burghclere.
Prof Grayling has written and edited over 20 books on philosophy and other subjects and is a frequent broadcaster and writer for national newspapers and other publications.
He sits on the editorial boards of several academic journals, and for nearly ten years was the Honorary Secretary of the principal British philosophical association, the Aristotelian Society.
He was Professor of Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London, and is a Supernumerary Fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford.
Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm with the presentation starting at 7pm. It will be followed by a discussion session.
