Phone mast application submitted by Three UK in Bradfield Southend
Three UK have submitted an application to determine if prior approval is required to install a radio mast in Bradfield Southend.
The application was received by West Berkshire Council on Thursday, November 17, and it is currently in the process of making its decision.
The installation would see a 20 metre high slim-line monopole installed at the junction of Heath Road and South End Road, with associated equipment and cabinets including six antennas, one wraparound equipment cabinet at the base of the monopole, one equipment cabinet, two electric meter cabinets, two transmission dishes and ancillary development.
The cover letter sent by Three UK — who undertake the management and network deployment of telecommunications sites on behalf of Three (UK) Ltd — said: "The proposed scheme is identified as the most suitable site option and design that balances operational need with local planning policies and national planning policy guidance. It will deliver public benefit in terms of the mobile services it will provide.
"We are committed to maintaining a positive relationship with all local planning authorities and we would be happy to provide any additional information in relation to this application."
One objection to the proposal said: "There is a bat roost nearby. The radiation signals would be detrimental to their health. I do not believe a bat survey has been carried out as I can find.
"I also have concerns regarding the close proximity to residents of the village, shortwave microwave signals, health and ecological concerns, that it is sited in an area of outstanding natural beauty, size, spoiling the view of people living nearby, where it will be a constant vision outside of their window, it is not in keeping with other structures within the village."
But environmental health officer at the public protection partnership, Jodie Wilson said: "I have no environmental health objection to the proposed telecommunication mast and ancillary equipment."
