People packed into Newbury’s Tesco Metro in Northbrook Street when it reopened following a £2m refit in 1995.
The Newbury Weekly News reported that the battle for the lunchtime sandwich was priority for the store, which stocked 50 types of sandwich, and had 12 express checkouts.
