Picture was heaven sent

The latest My Newbury pictures show a variety of scenes from across West Berkshire

IS it a bird? Is it a plane?

Well it could be both in this week's selection of My Newbury photos taken by Newburytoday.co.uk readers.

Tim Burgess has sent us a photo of the International Space Station passing over Donnington Castle, while we have also received photos of a rare bird sighting in Hungerford on Sunday.

Mr Burgess said that he wanted to capture the old and the new and the new contrasting in his picture and added: "Within 48 hours, I had 3,000 views on Flickr."

Laura Chalmers, of Wokingham, spotted the glossy ibis from Freemans Marsh surrounded by a gaggle of bird watchers and photographers in what is believed to be the first reported sighting of the bird since the 18th century, according to the Berkshire Birds website.

She said: “Watching the bird for several hours was the highlight of my year. The noise it makes is brilliant, like a party hooter.”

Another reader, Ed Balch, has also submitted a photo for this week's selection from Sunday, when he captured a scene on the Kennet and Avon Canal from the footbridge behind the new Tesco store on the A4 London Road.
