The mayor of Newbury hosted a Christmas afternoon tea party for some of the town’s oldest residents to celebrate the festive season.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, December 17, 50 guests all over the age of 75 attended the special tea party at St Nicolas Church Hall.
On arrival they were greeted by the Newbury mayor Andy Moore and his mayoress Sheila Moore, given a welcome drink and then served afternoon tea.
Guests enjoyed some delicious treats provided by the Empire Cafe and Bakery, accompanied by festive music, games and delightful carol singing from pupils at St Nicolas School.
Newbury’s town crier Steve Wallis acted as master of ceremonies and hosted a game of bingo and encouraged tables to take part in a Christmas quiz.
Gifts were presented to the oldest gentleman and oldest lady present.
Mr Moore said: “It was a delightful afternoon, filled with joy and positive energy.
“Guests shared fantastic feedback as they departed, and I personally enjoyed the event just as much as everyone else.
“It was a truly festive occasion, and we hope to continue this now annual tradition.
“A heartfelt thank you goes to all the staff, volunteers in Christmas jumpers, and to St. Nicolas Church for their incredible efforts in ensuring the day was enjoyable for all our guests.”
