Plane collides with car during event at Brimpton airstrip, Aldermaston

Woman airlifted to hospital with serious facial injuries

A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after a light aircraft collided with a car on take off at Brimpton airstrip today (Sunday).

Emergency services were called to the scene in Wasing Lane, Aldermaston at around 3pm when the plane hit an unoccupied Renault Megane before making contact with a second car.

The female occupant of the second car was injured and airlifted to hospital, while the pilot and his passenger escaped with minor injuries which were treated at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance service said: "We were called to an incident at Brimpton airstrip at 2.45pm today when a light aircraft had gone into a car.

"We assessed three patients at the scene, two didn't require any further treatment, however a woman in her sixties suffered serious facial injuries and was flown to John Radcliffe Hospital."

The incident occurred at a small event attended by approx 100 spectators.

Thames Valley Police say they are gathering evidence for a subsequent investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
