Planned stable conversion under consideration near Bucklebury

A couple have applied for planning permission to convert a redundant timber-framed stable into a single dwelling with a car park, landscaping and associated works.

The conversion would see Westfield Stables, in Tylers Lane near Bucklebury, converted into a two-bedroom dwelling with parking space for two cars and a garden area.

The proposal outlines no extension of significant alteration.

But some residents have objected on the grounds that the conversion would impact the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, increasing traffic along Tylers Lane and ignoring the locality’s demand for stables.

The application states surface water will be disposed of via soakaway and foul sewage will be disposed of via package treatment plant and drainage field.

But representatives for sustainable drainage systems (SUDs) say the site could be underlain by clay.

Evidence of infiltration test results would be required to show that a soakaway solution is feasible in this location, or that an alternative means of discharge is available.

The proposal will be determined by Wednesday, June 21.
