Aldi gets expansion plan approved for Newbury store

Aldi has been given planning permission to expand its store in Newbury.

The store wants to increase parking spaces, add electric charging points and make the shop floor bigger.

The scheme proposes the demolition of York House and the development of that site to expand the existing Aldi car park and allow a single-storey extension to be added to the store that increases the retail area.

The store entrance will move higher up the site but in a similar position to before.

The existing car park provides 64 customer spaces, including four for disabled users and six parent/child designated spaces. The proposed scheme increases the total to 85 customer spaces.

The existing main Aldi site entrance will remain unchanged. The York House site access will be taken out of action with the introduction of a new retaining wall.

The car park layout will be very similar to before with perimeter parking extended into the new site area and a new central bay provided with 6m reversing space throughout.

The store extension will include amendments to the welfare layout at ground and first floor to ensure the retail area can be maximised and closer to Aldi’s current standards.
