Plans approved for specialist teaching block at Thatcham school
The project is part of West Berkshire Council's Education Capital Programme which aims to improve existing and new services in the districts schools.
Kennet School was the first in Berkshire to have a Physically Disabled Resource Unit as part of its educational programme but due to increasing numbers of pupils with needs, a larger unit is needed.
The hearing Impaired unit will be brand new at the school.
Plans were approved last year for a two storey building of the same use but, Kennet School subsequently became an academy and out of direct control of the local education authority, and as a result smaller plans have been submitted.
The building will be built on one of the school's three large tennis courts and the lost tennis court will be replaced on an area of unused school field.
The plans for the single storey building were approved at the end of September.
