Plans for new unit at Thornford Park Hospital

Planning permission is being sought for a single-storey building consisting of ten bedsit-style rooms, totalling at 624 square metres, with a brick and timber facade and a metal-clad pitched roof to be situated next to the recently constructed gatehouse.
In September 2011, West Berkshire Council granted planning permission for the construction of a single storey office building in the same location, which has since been scrapped by the hospital in favour of the new accommodation unit.
A spokesperson for Thornford Park Hospital, who asked not to be named, said: “This new unit will provide new and modern accommodation for patients who are already living in a semi-independent or independent environment.
“Many of these individuals work or attend college and the new unit will offer enhanced facilities as they progress towards supported living within the community.”
The new build will not increase the amount of occupants at the current 122-bed hospital, which will simply see residents already living in the facility moved to the new site.
