Plans for refurbished Thatcham play area to be revealed

School children and members of the public can have their say on refurbishment at Henwick Worthy Sports Field

PLANS for the refurbished play area at the Henwick Worthy Sports Field are to go on show.

The current play area dates back to 1996 when the site was first opened and now Henwick Worthy Joint Management Committee (JMC) is looking to refurbish it with a range of more challenging and modern play equipment.

The £70k project comes after requests from local parents and children for modernised play equipment and it is being funded by West Berkshire Council from developers' financial contributions and capital funds.

Three designs from specialist playground design companies have been shortlisted and Thatcham Town Council is currently consulting with pupils at Parsons Down junior and infant schools and Whitelands Park Primary School.

The designs will also be displayed at the Henwick Worthy Sports Pavilion in March when local residents will be given the opportunity to comment further.

Chairman of the JMC, district councillor, Keith Woodhams (Lib Dem, Thatcham West), said: “This is a very exciting project.

“We are canvassing opinion from local school children to ensure that the play area is exactly as they would like it.

“This is a real community facility and we would encourage as many people as possible to view the plans and let us know what they think."

It is hoped that the new play area will be ready by the summer.
