Brimpton Mill owners want garden as wedding venue
Plans to turn a family garden into a wedding venue have been put forward for Brimpton Mill in Brimpton.
The owners want to keep their private residence private, but use the garden and former tennis court to hold weddings and events.
They have submitted a change of use plan to West Berkshire Council.
The space will be used as an occasional event venue including, but not limited to, birthdays, retirements, family occasions, and weddings.
For this purpose, says the application, various temporary tables, shelters and other event related items may be placed before each event and dismantled after.
There will also be various outdoor lighting improvements, and safety related upgrades to the bridge included in the area, as well as water safety signage.
All event planning and organisation will be done by a 3rd party event planner, and any power, water and other supplies will be supplied by 3rd parties contracted with the event planner.
Timing will be varied, but events would generally run mid-afternoon through midnight on primarily weekends during the summer months (although not limited to summer).
Currently the land is a combination of grass lawn, flowers, hedges, and bitumen hard standing (a former tennis court). It has existed in this state since purchase of the entire property in 2004.
“The tennis court has clearly been in an unusable state from well before the purchase in 2004. It is a ‘tennis court’ in name only,” says the application,
“These areas were only ever for the private use of the residents. The entire site is occupied by a family as a private residence. The proposal is for less than the 28 day permitted use allowance for event venues. There would be nothing sold requiring a licence, and events would be organised by contracted third parties. The site is entirely surrounded by private property, and shielded by thick trees and brush, thus ensuring no disturbance to the local community. Any permanent buildings on the property will remain a private residence.”
