Plans submitted for 14 house estate in Thatcham
The proposed estate at Station Road, submitted by MatchBox Architects on behalf of Thatcham builders Palady Homes, includes 14 houses, parking and an outdoor public area.
The site is currently unused but buildings from the previous business remain. According to the application, the site has contamination from its previous use and this is having an adverse effect on wildlife.
A statement from MatchBox Architects said: “It is proposed that the site will be heavily decontaminate, including the removal of any asbestos on site, and restored back to its original condition, which will improve the site for local flora and fauna, encouraging them back on to site, and also allow any permeating water to seep in to the aquifer without passing through any contamination.”
The firm added that the main objectives were to create high-quality homes for the Thatcham while enhancing the locality by removing industrial buildings and revitalising a brown field site by creating a pleasant and spacious public space within the setting of private dwellings.
West Berkshire Council is due to make a decision on the application by September 10.
