Players to enjoy medieval game at Newbury school

The game is one of England’s oldest, originating from peasants knocking balls against chapel walls. It is played similar to squash except players use gloved hands instead of a racquet.
The club will use the Eton Fives courts at St Bartholomew’s School, which opened in March.
Newbury Fives member, Paul Mason, said: “People of all ages can play and many play fives to a greater age than squash, it is excellent for hand-eye co-ordination, it is not an overly expensive sport, it promotes fair play and is hugely sociable.”
The first session will be held from 10am to 1pm at the Saint Bart's courts on September 22.
