Plucky woman fights off would-be Tadley robber

A WOULD-BE robber in Tadley was fought off by a plucky young woman last Friday morning (Jul 26), as he tried to snatch her handbag.

According to Hampshire Constabulary, the 23-year-old woman was walking along the wooded pathway between Wigmore Road and the rear of Bishopswood Road shops at about 10am, when she was approached by an unknown man.

He grabbed her handbag but she managed to fight him off and he then ran away.

The man was described as white, aged in his mid 40s, of a skinny build and with a very drawn face.

He was about 5ft 9ins to10ins tall and wearing a dark beanie hat, blue jeans and a light-coloured t-shirt.

The woman also said he smelt of alcohol.

Pc Alex Hall said: “Fortunately nothing was stolen and the woman wasn’t injured, but it was still a frightening incident for her.

“This is a busy area of Tadley and there may have been a number of people in the area at the time who would have seen this man.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Pc Hall at Basingstoke CID on the non emergency telephone number, 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously, telephone 0800 555 111.
