Poetry recital draws a Newbury Library crowd
Local teacher, Mike Braide’s choice included popular items by John Betjeman, WH Auden and Lewis Carroll, as well as some less familiar poems.
Starting with TS Eliot’s: Journey of the Magi, Mr Braide took his audience on a poetic journey, with verse about various methods of transport.
The theme proved successful, including observations from prose travel, written by Alain de Botton:
“The 45 minute session passed too rapidly for the enthusiastic audience of over 40 listeners,” said Peta Stoddart-Crompton, a spokeswoman for West Berkshire Council.
The recital was one in a series of monthly talks at the library on Thursday evenings.
The next talk takes place this evening - Thursday October 11 at 6pm called: West Berkshire's Living Landscape.
Host, Phil Dean a conservation volunteer for Berks, Bucks, and Oxon Wildlife Trust will reveal more about the wide range of wildlife and habitat that can be found in west Berkshire. Free tickets available from Newbury Library.
