Police allay fears after deaths of two elderly people in Newbury

Following reports of concern for the occupants, police had to force an entry to the property in Berkeley Road on Sunday morning where they discovered the body of the 89-year-old woman and a 94-year-old man with serious injuries.
The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but subsequently died Sunday evening.
Newbury Local Police Area commander, Supt Robin Rickard, said: “We are aware that the continued police presence in the area may be causing some concern to the local residents.
“We would like to reassure people that we are carrying out standard forensic investigations to determine fully the circumstances around the two deaths.
“At this stage, there is no obvious sign of a forced entry to the property other than that made by the police to gain access.
"Full examination of the property is likely to take a number of days.
“Officers will be increasing patrols in the area to ensure local people are kept informed as the investigation develops.”
The Home Office post mortems are still being carried out at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the results are expected today (Tues).
