Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 7.29pm on Monday (June 30) of a disturbance involving a large group of people in the area of Pier Approach.

A number of police officers were injured during the incident, as well as a teenage girl who was taken to hospital for treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

Local Policing Commander Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey said: “We have been carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident and would urge anyone with information relating to those responsible, as well as anyone who has captured relevant footage, to please contact us.

“Our officers continue to carry out regular dedicated reassurance patrols in the vicinity and they can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns relating to this incident.

“I’d like to reiterate that Dorset Police will not tolerate reported public disorder of this nature and violence towards officers carrying out their duty.

“We will be carrying out a full investigation to identify those involved and take robust action.

“It is important to us that those living and visiting the area at the busiest time of the year have a good, safe summer.”
