Police appeal for information following Greggs robbery in Newbury

Armed raiders steal more than £3,000 from Northbrook Street bakers

TWO armed-raiders stole thousands of pounds in cash from a Greggs bakery in Newbury on Friday (January 8).

The men, both carrying hammers, entered Greggs bakery in Northbrook Street at around 5.30pm and demanded that members of staff empty the safe, before leaving via the rear door with £3,150 in cash.

The members of staff, a man and a woman, were not injured during the incident.

The first offender is white, in his mid twenties to mid thirties and of average build.

He was wearing a red hooded top with cream or light brown trim, a patterned scarf covering the bottom half of his face, and jeans.

He was carrying a black rucksack which was light grey in colour on the front.

The second offender, who is also white, was wearing a dark-coloured thigh length parka style coat, which had two pockets on the front, and dark jeans.

His face was also covered.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt John Yallop of Force CID based at Newbury, said: “We are conducting a thorough investigation into this serious offence and are determined to bring the offenders to justice. We are appealing to the public to help us achieve this. If anyone has any information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, then please contact us.
