Police appealing for witnesses to A34 crash

Hampshire Constabulary were alerted to a single vehicle collision on the A34 at approximately 1:50pm yesterday (Wednesday) in which a Ford Ranger had collided with the central reservation on the A34 southbound between the A4 Bath Road junction in Speen and the A343 junction in Broad Laying.
Less than half an hour later the police BMW vehicle that attended the scene was struck by an on-coming Volkswagon Polo, causing the entire southbound carriageway to be closed. No-one was hurt in either incident but there was considerable damage caused to the police vehicle and the central reservation.
The driver of the Volkswagon Polo, a 42-year-old man from Kent, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and released on bail.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, James Wright, confirmed at 5pm yesterday that 170 metres of the central reservation had been damaged and that one lane remained closed.
Both lanes are now open.
Anyone with any information is being urged to contact Sgt Linden Barret at Whitchurch Road policing unit on non-emergency number 101 quoting RMS incident number 44120406157.
