Police blame council for Chief Constable presentation mix-up
Chief Constable Sara Thornton was turned away from the offices of the district council after she turned up 40 minutes late to give a presentation to the public and councillors.
Ms Thornton, who became Chief Constable in 2007, was scheduled to start her presentation at 6pm on September 27, but did not arrive at the council’s offices until 6.40pm.
Because the council had a meeting scheduled for 7.10pm Ms Thornton was told she would not be able to give her presentation, after which she was due to answer questions from the public.
Spokesman for Thames Valley Police, Christopher Kearney, said: “The Council presentation for this year was arranged in September 2011. Unfortunately only the new date rather than the exact timings were communicated to my office by the council so my office assumed they were at 6.45pm; the same as the previous year.”
Public relations manager for West Berkshire Council, Keith Ulyatt said an ‘administrative error’ was to blame for the mix-up.
He said the presentation would be rearranged.
