Local units immediately began searching for the vehicle, before it was spotted by the ANPR team travelling up the A34 into Oxfordshire on different number plates.

Travelling at speeds in excess of 100mph it was ‘boxed in’ by units from the ARV, Oxford local policing team and the roads policing tasking team and brought to a stop on the M40 near Banbury.

One person was taken into custody after access was gained to the vehicle through the window.

The roads policing team took to social media to report the incident.

In a post they said: “This tasty little box occurred on the M40 near Banbury.

“This Peugeot 308 GTI was stolen from Newbury by way of a keyless theft. Units from the area were searching however it made good its escape.

“Our ANPR team were all over it and located the vehicle on different plates travelling up the A34 into Oxfordshire. Units from the ARV, #OXONRPBshift and roads policing tasking team boxed the vehicle as it drove along the M40 at in excess of 100mph.

“A slight bit of contact with one of our unmarked units and the vehicle was brought to an abrupt halt. The doors were locked and entry was gained by putting the window through. Sadly, this meant we weren’t able to measure the tints on the vehicle. One in custody.”
