Police close Hungerford High Street after vehicle collides with building

Thames Valley Police has closed Hungerford High Street, A338, after a car collided with a building on Tuesday afternoon.

Damage has been sustained to a number of buildings and police closed the road on the advice of building control and in the interests of public safety.

The road is closed to vehicles between between Park Street and Atherton Crescent.

This closure will remain in effect until full structural surveys have been undertaken and it has been confirmed that the damaged buildings do not present a risk to passing traffic.

As the buildings are privately-owned, West Berkshire Council said it is unable to make the buildings safe itself.

However, it will liaise with the owners and their insurers where possible to ensure that the road may be reopened as quickly as possible.
