Police investigating Newbury rape allegation

A 56-year-old woman claims that she was sexually assaulted as she walked in Oddfellows Road near St Nicolas' Church between 11pm on Sunday, July 6 and 1.30am on Monday, July 7.
There is currently a scene watch in place and officers are investigating the full circumstances of the incident.
Thames Valley Police say that the victim is being fully supported by specially trained officers.
Investigating officer, Det Insp Stuart Bosley from Newbury Force CID said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and so are working hard to establish the circumstances of what has happened here.
“We are investigating an allegation of rape and the offender was not known to the victim, so I ask anyone who was in central Newbury in the early hours of yesterday who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch immediately.
“And if you have any concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact one of our patrol officers who will be in Newbury offering help and reassurance.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting URN 118 of 7/7.
Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
