Members of Hamstead Marshall oil club have reportedly been targeted as thieves are alleged to have cut tanks open to get at the fuel.
The crime reduction and prevention advisor for West Berkshire, Romy Freiburghaus, has given guidance to anyone who stores oil at home.
He had told residents to fit containers with tank locks, fit anti-theft siphons, put defensive planting around the tank, and put the tank in a guard.
He added that the location of the tank was important.
Anyone who has been targeted is asked to contact police and report the incident on the non-emergency number 101.
