Police officer and partners recognised for work on Thatcham rape investigation

A Thames Valley Police officer and four other people have been recognised for their work into a rape in Thatcham.

One police officer, one staff member and four other people working for partners have received awards from the chief constable on Monday, July 17.

Chief commendations went to West Berkshire Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit specialist investigator Colin Squibb, Detective Constable Tara Hamilton, A2 Dominion outreach worker Samantha Collins, Heather Craddock and Clare Schofield from ISVA.

Mustapha Boudjelida, 45, of HMP Bullingdon, was found guilty by trial for four counts of rape at Reading Crown Court on February 9 last year.

He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

Specialist investigator Colin Squibb said: “I am delighted to have been recognised by the chief constable in this way just prior to my 40th anniversary of police service.

“I am particularly pleased to have brought justice for the victim in this case and am proud of the contribution of police colleagues am partner agencies, whose tireless effort secured key evidence and supported the victim throughout.

“Without their dedication and professionalism, the perpetrator may not have been convicted.”

DC Tara Hamilton said: “This case, investigated by my colleague, resulted in the conviction of a dangerous offender, who received a lengthy custodial sentence.

“I am pleased to have played a part in achieving this for the complainant, who showed courage in coming forward and in her support throughout the investigation.”
