Police officer in hospital following mayhem in Thatcham town centre
TWO police officers were injured, one of them seriously, in town centre mayhem on Thursday night, October 31, it has emerged.
Thames Valley Police issued a statement around 22 hours after the chaos in Thatcham, reported as it happened by newburytoday.co.uk
Around 20 police officers and a crew from South Central Ambulance Service attended and a male was lying, motionless on the pavement, beneath a police jacket until medical help arrived.
Police have now appealed for witnesses and issued the following: “At around 5pm on the Broadway, Thatcham, neighbourhood police offers were flagged down by a member of the public who reported that his moped had been pushed over and damaged.
“Following this report, officers arrested a teenager on suspicion of criminal damage.
“After this arrest, the teenager became obstructive and another man became involved and an altercation ensued.
“Two officers were injured in this altercation, with one suffering injuries to her hand.
“She required hospital treatment but has since been discharged.
“The other officer suffered a fractured tibia.
“He remains in hospital at this time.
“The teenager has since been de-arrested in connection with the incident of criminal damage.”
Meanwhile said police, an 18-year-old man from Thatcham was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and he remained in custody as of Friday afternoon, November 1.
A 16-year-old girl from Thatcham was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
She has since been released on conditional bail.
A 15-year-old girl from Thatcham was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order and criminal damage.
She has since been released on conditional bail.
Det Insp Bill Sykes said: “We are appealing for witnesses after two of our officers were assaulted on the Broadway yesterday afternoon.
“This incident occurred outside a coffee shop and we are aware that members of the public witnessed this incident take place and we are appealing for these witnesses to contact the force as they may have important information which can assist our investigation.
