Police search continues in Ramsbury after boots of murdered girl and gun are found

Specialist dog units are searching fields near to the pond, in Hilldrop Lane, for any trace of human remains, while Wiltshire Police conducts a fingerprint search of the area and dive teams continue to scour the pond.
Miss O’Callaghan was last seen leaving Suju nightclub in Swindon at 2.52am on Saturday, March 19, 2011 and her body was found near Uffington White Horse five days later.
On Wednesday, the first of a pair of brown New Look boots, matching those worn by Miss O’Callaghan on the night she was murdered, was discovered in the pond.
The second was discovered in the water yesterday (Friday) as the media watched, and just a few hours later a single barrelled shotgun (pictured) was also found in the water.
In October 2012, Swindon taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, who at the time of Miss O’Callaghan’s death lived in Ashbury Avenue, pleaded guilty to her murder.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years, when he appeared before Bristol Crown Court.
He was not tried for a second murder after leading police to Becky Godden’s buried body. He was not cautioned by investigating officer Det Supt Steve Fulcher before he led police to the body in Gloucestershire.
Mr Fulcher resigned from his role on Thursday for reasons not related to today’s discoveries, Wiltshire Police have said.
The search continues for other items known to have been in Miss O’Callaghan’s possession at the time of her death, including her mobile phone and the jewellery that she was wearing.
