Police search for man who retrieved stolen briefcase




Good samaritan chased after thief who stole briefcase from driver in Newbury

POLICE are searching for a member of the public who helped retrieve a briefcase after it was stolen from a car in Newbury yesterday (Tuesday).

At 5.20pm, a man placed his briefcase on the rear seat of the car, in Station Approach, and got in the front seat.

He then heard the rear door open and a man grabbed the briefcase and ran off.

The member of the public then chased after the offender and told him to drop the briefcase, which he did.

The offender is described as a white man, 5ft 10ins and of medium build.

Pc Emma Fox, from Newbury police station, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident but I am particularly keen to speak to the member of the public who gave chase and helped the man get his property back.

“This man may hold key information in order to secure an arrest.”
