Police seek witnesses to botched raid

The masked raiders fled when a member of staff in the Kiln Road shop raised the alarm

POLICE are seeking witnesses to a botched raid after three masked men tried to rob a convenience store in Newbury.

The men entered the One Stop shop in Kiln Road, Newbury at 6am on May 30 and grabbed a member of staff, but quickly fled the scene after she set off the alarm.

Thames Valley Police said a fourth person was believed to have stayed in a black Range Rover, which sped away and crashed a short distance away.

The Range Rover had been stolen from Hampshire earlier the same day and police believe it was in the Turnpike area for about half an hour before the incident.

Nothing was stolen and no-one was injured but police are now appealing for witnesses to the bungled raid - the details of which were only released today - to come forward.

Det Sgt Paul Davidson, of Newbury police station, said: "I am keen to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident, particularly anyone who saw dark coloured Range Rover which had been in the area for a while before the incident."

He asked that anyone with information contact him on 0845 8 505 505 or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
