Man arrested over Newbury sexual assault is released without charge due to insufficient evidence
A MAN who was arrested in relation to a sexual assault in Newbury has been released without charge.
The attack happened in Shaw Road, Newbury, at about 1pm on May 30, when a 22-year-old woman who was walking along the canal path with a one-year-old child in a buggy was grabbed from behind.
Thames Valley Police said a 26-year-old man from the Newbury area was arrested on suspicion of the sexual assault and of exposure on the A4 at Speen on March 30 and near Shaw House in Church Road, Newbury, on March 8, but he was later released without charge due to insufficient evidence.
Ds Paul Davidson said the investigation is still ongoing and welcomes any information from the public.
Meanwhile, police are also appealing for information about a similar attack which occurred in Priors Court Road, Hermitage, at about 10pm on May 27.
A 38-year-old woman went to cross the road but was grabbed from behind by a stranger.
The woman managed to break free and ran towards the village where she called the police.
