Reading Magistrates' Court: Thames Valley Police apply to detain Thatcham man's suspected ill-gotten gains
POLICE have successfully applied to hold on to £4,000 they seized from a Thatcham man.
The application was made on behalf of Supt Craig Kirby at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday, February 3.
The respondent from whom the cash was seized the day before, Michael Paul Long of Water Lane, was not present to contest the application.
The court granted the continued detention for six months of the £4,000, acknowledging that "the applicant has reasonable grounds for suspecting that it is recoverable property - that is, property obtained through unlawful conduct or intended for use in unlawful conduct", in accordance with section 295 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
