Police silent over 'hit and run' traffic incident
POLICE have maintained public silence over a reported "hit and run" accident between two vehicles in Hungerford.
The aftermath was said to have been this burned out vehicle, pictured.
The incident was said to have happened on Friday, December 2, when a van struck another vehicle and failed to stop.
The torched vehicle was abandoned off North Standen Road.
The Hungerford neighbourhood police team no longer provides in-person updates on crime to the monthly full town council meeting.
But at December's meeting on Monday night, December 5, there was no written update either.
Nevertheless, town mayor Helen Simpson said she had been able to ascertain from a police community support officer that there was apparently an investigation under way.
She added: "This was an alarming event and we don't relish this happening in Hungerford.
"Hopefully the police will report to us in due course."
The Thames Valley Police West Berkshire social media outlets made no mention of the incident.
The Newbury Weekly News approached Thames Valley Police for information and to ask whether a witness appeal would be issued.
A spokeswoman for the force stated: "If it was a damage only, or minor injury, RTC [road traffic collision] then we wouldn’t provide a response."
