Police target inconsiderate parkers in Hungerford
The announcement was made at a meeting of Hungerford Town Council’s highways and transport committee.
Committee chairman Rob Brookman said: “I went down there on three consecutive mornings for an hour, counting cars and pedestrians to see if there was a problem, because I’ve heard conflicting reports.
“I came to the conclusion that there was. People are parking on the new footpath outside the church. One person had parked right on the corner of Lourdes Crescent and Fairview Road, presumably having been there overnight.”
Terry Harding agreed there was a problem and added: “I’ve almost had a head-on (collision) there because of cars blocking the view.
Mr Brookman agreed: “It’s lethal. We need to get the message out. We’ve made the police aware and their response was to ask for registration numbers so they can speak to those involved.
“Anyone who uses that road regularly should keep an eye out and use the 101 number to contact police, especially if it’s a persistent offender.”
He added: “I’m told that if those involved don’t accept a friendly warning then they will get a fixed penalty notice.”
The committee is also to consider a suggestion that the road width should be reduced to allow the footpath to be made wider.
The Catholic church opened in April after nearly nine years of planning, designing and building.
