Police treating Burghfield blaze as suspected arson
Seven pumps and over 30 firefighters were called to the vacant building - a Springwood Engineering warehouse - at around 7.30pm on October 18.
Watch manager at Dee Road fire station, Steve Andrews, said: “The fire was already through the roof when we arrived and the windows had gone.
“The front of the building was engulfed in flames and as there were properties and trees close by our job was to protect the surrounding area as it could have spread to nearby houses.”
Thames Valley Police are now treating the cause of the fire as suspected arson are calling for any witnesses to come forward.
Investigating officer Det Con Clare Larkworthy, of Newbury CID, said: “Two white men were seen in the area of the warehouse during Friday afternoon and it is believed they left the scene in a silver saloon-type car.
“I would like to speak to anyone who saw these two men or the vehicle in the area, as well as anyone who has information about the fire.”
If you can help, please call Det Con Larkworthy via Thames Valley Police’s 24-hour Enquiry Centre on 101.
