Police urge people to download this app that can help them get to an emergencies faster

In a bid to help emergency services respond to incidents more quickly, Thames Valley Police is urging people to download a location app to their mobile phones.

What 3 Words has divided the world into chunks, each three metres square.

From the app, users can pinpoint their location, which then brings up three unique words – for example, the Newbury Weekly News’ Faraday Road offices are listed as ///advice.trying.erase.

These can then be given to emergency services, such as when calling 999, to give them a more precise location as to where they need to head to.

Thames Valley Police say it is the easiest way to find and share exact locations.

The app is available to download on both Apple and Android devices, and there is a website, what3words.com.

A YouTube video, found by searching for Help Emergency Services to find you with what3words, is available offering more information on how the system works.
