Police warning over cold callers

A recent spate of cold calling incidents across West Berkshire has prompted a police warning

PEOPLE in West Berkshire are being warned to be on their guard after a recent spate of cold calling incidents.

On Wednesday (February 16), Thames Valley Police received reports of several incidents where men were attempting to sell goods at the door of a number of properties, stating that it was part of their probation service.

The incidents occurred in Hermitage Green, Hermitage, Burdens Heath, Bucklebury and in Theale.

Police have now issued a warning to local residents and has recommended that people do not buy goods from doorstep traders who call unannounced.

In a message to neighbourhood watch scheme members, police said: “If you are faced with this type of trader and they use intimidating or extremely persuasive sales tactics, call the police enquiry centre on 0845 8 505 505. Or if they become threatening, dial 999.”

Police have also urged anyone that has witnessed any of the recent incidents to contact them on 0845 8 505 505.
