Pop in for free advice as Royal British Legion launches new welfare scheme

From advice in setting up businesses or dealing with financial difficulties to helping tidy up the garden or installing new furniture, the sessions - to be held on the third Tuesday of every month - will help put people in touch with services already run by the RBL.
When this is not possible, the RBL will help them to make contact with other organisations, such as West Berkshire Council and Sovereign Housing.
The Pop In sessions will be available to current and ex-service men and woman and anyone who is dependent on them, and also widows of service people who have died.
The Newbury RBL branch chairman, Keith Williams, said: “There will be someone here to help them with any problems they have.
“There are literally thousands of people out there that are in need of assistance in one way or another and don’t know that we can help them, and there are a lot of people who don’t like asking for help.
“There’s an awful lot of men and women on their own that were service people and there are a lot of dependants and their widows who are struggling for certain things and don’t know where to turn.”
The next meetings are scheduled for February 18, March 18 and April 18, from 10am to 1pm, at the RBL club, Pelican Lane, and will continue on the third Tuesday of every month throughout the year.
Private one-to-one sessions can also be arranged during session times, and any information will remain confidential.
The Pop In scheme will be funded by the Poppy Appeal and through donations to the charity.
Mr Williams is also urging anyone who knows of a person who could benefit from the Pop In sessions to get in touch.
