Pop star Will Young headlines Ladies Day
Singer speaks of 'homecoming'
POP STAR Will Young has spoken of his ‘homecoming’ gig at Newbury Racecourse this weekend.
Young, who grew up in Hungerford, will headline the Party in the Paddock after Ladies Day at the racecourse on Saturday.
After bursting on to the music scene when winning the first series of in 2002, Young has gone on to be one of the most successful talent show winners.
He has released four number one albums and his hit singles include , and .
Young will be performing live after seven thrilling races, featuring the £150,000 Group Two Betfred Hungerford Stakes.
The 37-year-old said: “I am from Hungerford and my family on my mum’s side all lived around Newbury so I know the area very well.
“I think it must be the closest to a ‘home’ gig that I have ever done.
“I went racing at Newbury with my family many times when I was younger and it was always a great day out. Obviously, we were also very close to Lambourn, so racing was very much all around the area.”
Young also has some experience in the saddle and appeared as a dressage rider in the video for his 2008 single .
He added: “I would say that I am a competent rider, but probably not any more than that and I can get by when I need to.”
And after his performance at Newbury, Young will be preparing to foxtrot his way on to our TV screens after being announced as the second celebrity taking part in this year’s earlier this week.
